A race organised at Wykeham Forest near Scarborough was next on Bens calendar. The race organised by Bike Outlet York had attracted an entry by a couple of the countries best riders in Danny Hart (Balfa UK) and Dave Wardell (GT/Hyundai). Saturdays practice went well for Ben as learning a new track is not always easy, but the Wykeham track was quite straight forward with plenty of sections requiring a large input of pedalling so fitness was going to count. Early afternoon and the rain started and gradually became so bad riders were struggling to see through the flying mud and water, so Ben was forced to call it a day. Race day started with three practice runs followed by a seeding run, in which Ben finished seventh fastest in the U-18 class. Then after a short break and some much needed bike (and rider) cleaning the race runs got underway. From the top the track fell quite steeply over muddy drops and slippery corners, then it runs over the road jump and back down into a steep chute, sending riders along the section full of tree roots and stumps. Over the next road gap and it boasts flat out pedalling from here on, over a couple of jumps and down to the finish line. After a wait for the times to be confirmed, riding on his race prepared Nicolai M-PireST, Ben came home in a fantastic second place in class and forth place overall on the day, earning another excellent podium finish for himself and his sponsors.
